Will work for sunshine
Less than a week ago, Boston was still teetering around the freezing mark. Today it's sunny and 84 degrees! Is it true that short sleeves, flip flops and sunshine can be blamed for a jump in productivity?? We're looking at quite a large feature release this week, so maybe it is...
Along with two previously mentioned features that will be launching early this week, there are a few more still up our sleeve.
One that I'm excited to tell you about is Virb Layouts; a project that our very own VIRB Soldier, Stephen (aka: Teevio), has been cooking up. Virb Layouts is a site with a single purpose: to supply you with some snazzy and easy-to-implement profile templates. More details (and a link) coming your way as soon as it's LIVE!
Speaking of profile customization, I can't help but notice the crop of new 'customization' sites popping up 'round ye olde Internet. I recently came across MyVirb and StyleVirb, but I'm sure there are many more out there. Do you know of one that I don't? If so, spread the word and drop us a comment. We're excited to see what's out there!
Peace, love and an exciting week ahead.

Just a note, not related to the post. Virb doesn't appear to be working. The homepage isn't loading, nor is anything else.

@Dom – Really? Where are you located? It's working great for me.

I've been having the same problem here in the Midwest, since early Friday. Sometimes my profile loads, but I'm rarely able to get into my account. The Virb front page isn't loading, either.

I agree with Dom and Ken. I'm in the Midwest and have had painfully slow load times (like MySpace-slow) lately, or there's a "Database connection problem" (or similar verbiage). Been a little while since I got that one, though (black text on white background, with only that message displaying).

I haven't had any load issues at all with Virb, though I haven't been on it as much as during the week, but nonetheless.
Mike, Dom and Ken, you should specify the times you're trying to view any Virb sites, that way they can determine if it's actually the server their stuff is on, or just your connection being a wanker. If anything, it could be experiencing some high serverloads, which will slow things down, and even cause database connection issues (especially if there's a lot of people connected at that time.)
That aside, thanks for linking up SV! And I'm eagerly awaiting to see what Teevio is working on. :)

Server slow downs have been during the earlier part of the days throughout the week (can't say one way or another for the weekends yet; been too busy :) Usually noon at the earliest, to mid-late afternoon. It's been laggy/unresponsive at both home and work (ie- not always the same connection).
As for the database connections, I understand that too many connections at once can throw errors (max connections, lag, etc etc), but as Virb grows it's only going to get more and more simultaneous visitors, so it's something to be aware of.
I do Web development for a living, and I know server lag happens, so this isn't a bash, just pointing out some "hot" times :) If it continues, I'll jot down some specifics.
All the best, Mike

Looking forward to the blog import. Very cool.

I'm a little frustrated with the Virb friends feature. One of the things I don't like about MySpace is all the bands/musicians who ask to be my friend. I do not want to be friends with some band I've never heard of before, although I might like to bookmark them or something. Could you create a feature for musicians that allows them to get their name out there and advertise themselves, but not in my friends box? Thanks.

My friends who I link to my profile and pictures also complain it crawls for them. They're from the UK/CA/US/NL – for me it sometimes does load slow, but usually it is lightning fast.
Maybe it's the weather, who knows. Hopefully VIRB gets some sunshine soon and it will all flies fast again for everybody. I can't wait for the new features!

Hey Amber, don't forget that you can turn off friend requests from bands!! Just browse on over to your "Privacy Settings" underneath "Account/Settings" and you will see the option. Let me know if you need any assistance.

The VIRB layouts will be great for users that aren't familiar with CSS… and it'll also be awesome if everybody can create and submit their own creations! Not that I know how but… I'd like that :)

To the people that were having issues getting pages to load on Virb for the last few days, are you still having issues?
We have heard from a few people that they can now get to Virb again and pages are loading just fine.
If you were having problems over the weekend, and things are better now, what is your ISP?
Thanks.

I'm in the UK. All I get when I go to Virb.com is the header bar, with the virb logo and Your Home button. Nothing else loads. Got no other problems with my connection. Its cable from Virgin Media. No Server messages. I'm using Camino on Mac OS X, Safari does the same. Its 7pm GMT here, and also tried last night, about 11pm GMT. Weird..

I write a comment on the profil of Virb Inc to ask for the font you use, so that I can use a logo etc. with it. And that is because I want to build a little thing with tricks, tutorials and layouts for everyones profils and the backend. I love Virb, so maybe I can help you a little bit on this way. :wink

Really hope to use this new layout feature. There are fantastic pages around Virb. I posted in the RSS feed blog post about wanting some control over the groups display on my profile page. I don't just want it to be the last few I joined, but either more than that or a specific set of groups that better shows my interests. Have I missed something, or is this not possible at the moment? I've used the always show option on the friends' list, but it doesn't seem to be there for groups. Sorry to post about this twice, but I thought I was probably better posting it here because it's a layout and customization issue.

I'm much happier here so far than other places but there are a few … wonky things I've run into.
First off my audio doesn't seem to be loading right with no explanation of why not. The hits go up but nothing ever fully loads. I did get a couple songs to load for a brief period but there were soon back to the non-functional state.
Second it's not terribly clear on the "Custom Modules" if I can enter HTML. In fact when I pulled up my profile after adding a module it looked like it got rendered as if it was supposed to be HTML and all my returns/whitespace/text formatting got nuked. So I went back and tried to do HTML and that's not being rendered right either.
Third is just a sorta UI pet peeve but the FAQ page doesn't answer all the questions and there's no other help page. I imagine that's because things are still so under development you haven't had as much time to work out a full help section. But there wasn't information of what else to do – not even a link to the info@verb account. In fact I only managed to stumble upon this blog randomly whilst clicking around elsewhere.
