Virb Layouts, part deux
If you will recall, a few weeks ago I mentioned a new project which will be our little addition to the growing community of Virb customization websites. That project, aptly named Virb Layouts, is just about ready! So to refrain from coming off like a tease, I wanted to give you a little bit more than the typical 'update'.
Virb Layouts will have two different types of profile customization tools. One will allow you to simply 'skin' your profile by replacing its CSS; while the 'layouts' tool will do much more by utilizing both your CSS & HTML. So until Virb Layouts makes it official appearance later this week, we wanted to get you started with a few sample profile skins.
Also, if you haven't noticed, we launched the new homepage design today. Good, good stuff...
Mosaic (Gray)
Mosaic (Fuchsia)
Mosaic (Blue)
Droplets (Maroon)
Droplets (Olive)
P.S. Don't send me any more poems. I love hearing from you, but c'mon, there are only so many words that can rhyme with 'tease'. :)

Oh dear God. The fact that the phony Simmy profile has "Sandi Patty" on the music list just completely made my day. I used to love Sandi Patty! Wore that tape OUT in my dad's Chevy Celebrity Wagon. Aaah. Warm fuzzy feelings.

P.S. I love Droplets (Maroon)

Have to say I preferred the old layout but this one is still nice. Myspace hasn't changed its layout in years keep up the good work.

What a good idea. People seem a little frustrated with the learning curve for styling their pages and this ought to get them more excited about messing with their profiles. I'm curious to see how many skins you guys will offer… the more the better!

@Grayson – I can assure you, that will be fixed first thing tomorrow! Whoops.
@Leesa – The inventory will continue to grow over time. Plus I'll be looking for some occasional submissions from the citizens of VIRBland.

I'm far more appease with the lack of sleeze, and cheese that Virb brings over MySpace.
I do please of what one sees, and the lack of any fees, to implement new themes by Virb web monkees.
You may fall to your knees, my account you will seaze over the words that I've rhymed with 'tease'

great step…
i'm guessing this is pasted over the existing css in ones style box?
if so does this not take away from what you can accomplish with the basic customization? [font size, colour, link colours, and so on…]

Well then, I'd say it's a good thing Internet Explorer isn't a real browser, eh?
(At least, I don't consider it real.)

I recently joined VIRB, after hearing about it from a girl over at VOX.com. I'm really digging the design and I've been amusing myself for the past couple of hours with the CSS and what not. Anyway, hopefully this project expands, because it definitely looks like it's heading at a good direction.

While the skins are awesome, I find it a little inconvenient that you can't edit things like font color or link color in the basic layout/design-thingy area.
Is there any possible way that when something is changed in advanced layout, you can still change some features in simple layout? Even when I changed the Virb player's color to black, it wouldn't let me tweak my page to match the player color.
If that isn't possible, I guess I'm going to have to learn CSS :P
I still love Virb. Keep it up guys!

Hello. I thought of a new feature that would help some who do not have webhosting plans for image linking to help customize their Virb page.
1. Create a new album called "CSS" in your photos section. Because you named your new album "CSS", it will not show up in your "Photos" section on your homepage. 2. Upload the images to your "CSS" album. The images you upload will still count against your 150 photo limit. 3. Save the images. 4. Go to your "Customize" page and select the "Advanced" link. 5. Scroll down to the "CSS Styles" section and you will now see a list of images that you can use in your CSS Styles with full address location. Example: <code>http://virb.com/frederickpolk/photos/css/background.jpg</code>
I would love to see this as a new feature. Thanks for making Virb so freaking kick ass!

Erm, am I just an idiot who doesn't know how to search or did Virb Layouts never actually happen? I appreciate what this site is trying to accomplish design-wise but it could stand to try and make things a bit more user-friendly for those of us who have no coding skills whatsoever yet appreciate a stylish page. How about a Help section as well, as the FAQ is super basic…
