Uploads vs. OS X Leopard

If you are running Safari or Firefox on Mac OS X Leopard, you have probably noticed the inability to upload media to sites like Virb and Flickr. The problem lies within Adobe's Flash Player and the way that it interacts with Leopard.

As of this morning, Adobe has released an update to Flash Player 9, which fixes the issue with flash uploads in Leopard. Therefore you have two choices: Update the player (I've included some simple instructions below) or choose the "Try our simple uploader" option on the upload page. The new Virb will not utilize Flash in its upload method; so eventually, this will all be distant memory.

If your heart desires the update, here is some linkage to carry you thru the journey. I absolutely loathe the fact that Adobe forces you to uninstall Flash Player before upgrading to the new one. Ugh. So, first, you must download the uninstaller, close the browser(s) and run it. Once the app has cleared all traces of Flash from your Mac, it's time to download the installer (for Mac OS X 10.2 and above) and follow the included instructions. Good luck, upgraders!

Dave and I will be keeping an eye on this post, so let us know if you hit any bumps.

Thanks for the info, I was wondering why my Flickr uploads weren't working. When can we get more info on the new Virb?! I'm getting giddy as if it were Christmas.

Awesome, everything works great.

Now if someone could just fix the way my Leopard install handles disk images. It would be nice to be able to disconnect a disk image in normal means (cmd+e, dragging it to trash) without using disk utility. It is starting to wear on me.

another fix if ya cant get anyhitng working would be to use firefox

@ben This affects all browsers on Leopard. It has to do with the way it handles adding files in flash, and not browser dependent.

Over at Squarespace, we're noticing some issues with non-Flash WYSIWYG editing functions as well.

Safari's always had issues with WYSIWYG editing (not just ours) but now Firefox is also acting a bit buggy on systems running Leopard. Firefox released a new update yesterday here:

2.0.0.9 download

Just wanted to share that in case anyone on Virb is having similar problems.

Will Virb ever really take off or will it be this social network that will be sorta like a rogue network that doesn't really get any huge traffic?

Ah, cool… I was wondering why all of my favorite sites' flash uploaders stopped working…
