The silence is broken.

Hey gang. My apologies for the lack of updates over the past week. I took some much needed vacation time (and performed my first wedding ceremony). More on that later. :)

But... I'm back and have much to share with you. Fixes, updates, new features and some off-the-wall randomness will find its way to the Virb Blog quite soon.

In other news, Ryan and I were recently interviewed by Twentyone Degrees, the Australian-based company that develops the Symphony web publishing system. The interview is a little over an hour long, but we try to cover all the important things in life: the Internet, VIRB, girls, PHP, design and Ryan's facial hair. It's a hour of fun and information. Take a listen to the podcast!

Brad -

Actually, I'm a member of the Overture (Symphony) community and I just finished listening to Allen's interview with you and Ryan. Thanks so much for y'all sharing your experience with Symphony. Actually I'm quite new to XSLT too, and am doing my best to pick it up. I really am excited about the customization that Symphony offers. I can't wait to learn it more so I can help out others to benefit from the amazing little CMS. By the way, Virb.com is quite amazing! Thanks so much for y'alls efforts. It is so much cleaner (in all senses of the word) that MySpace. Thanks for sharing y'alls talents! Y'all are awesome! By the way, the Big Noob site looks great. Anyway, would love to hear about any future Symphony sites y'all do. Thanks again!

Yes, I agree with that Brian person. It really is cleaner. It's hard to explain why, but it is. Don't change too much. Unless it's for the better.

This place rocks. I was very happy to find you. The layout is great, it works perfectly, and no hassles. Perfect. Couldn't be any happier to be here :)

Keep it up !

Hey guys. I love everything that you guys are doing. Quick questions, and I don't know if this has been answered already, The applications that you all are creating…. are you using Symphony to create and manage them. Or, are you building them from the ground up hand-coded?

I would like to create a small social network like verb for local filmmakers, but there are just so many ways to achieve the desired goal. And, I am not the best hand coder of php.

Any direction would be appreciated.

Thanks

yes this place is real nice. just starting to spend more time here, since i have stuff to post now. i think the player is great, sounds better than the others and the customizing is easy.

you guys should add a similar artists link on each artists page.. just putting it out there. I think many music fans will greatly appreciate this!

Having been with virb for only a short period of time. I'm enjoying my experience here. I have yet to complete the layout I'm creating but it's coming together slowly. A lot of the CSS you guys used for the default layout is being scrapped. Thats the good thing about this place. You can scrap all the coding and then just insert the virb coding that displays everything you need. However I do have one question. Why is HTML not allowed in the profile fields? I have many bands I promote and not being able to post images is a drag. At this point I'm just better off not even using the virb coding and write everything from scratch and insert the images through the customization. One of the things that I've noticed with the social networking sites is that users like to be able to customize. In this case virb has allowed that. But what about the users who want to post images in their music section and link to it. Please think about this even put a limit on how many images a user can put on their profile in those fields to get rid of the stress load on the servers but also to not kill dial up users. Just a thought. I can't exactly comment on your podcast as I am at work and have no speakers.

I just wanted to make a suggestion and wasn't quite sure where to post it or how else to contact the VIRBmasters…. are there any plans for open discussion boards on VIRB? I'd love to be able to post messages that could be easily seen by anyone in the community. Mostly, I'd like to put out a call for roommates for an intentional community house I'm trying to put together in Los Angeles and think the VIRB community would be a great place to find potential housemates. Maybe a discussion board already exists, I just couldn't find it anywhere. Thanks so much!
