This is a great feature. Especially on my big monitors it is nice to have it dimm a bit and put the focus fully on the nice widescreen videos.

I think this is an awesome feature. I was so amazed by it when I first saw it, I sat for five minutes turning it on and off… It's amazing how much a dark background brings out the quality in the videos. Youtube has nothing on Virb now! (Except a bigger video limit.)
